Artwork requirements

GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS

  1. Artboard: art-board size MUST be the same as stated in the product information or provided quote
  2. Safe Area: all text and important art must be 3mm from the edge
  3. Format :
    - Files must be in pdf format - using PDF-X1A to flattern any transparency etc
    - If more than 1 side, or print finishing is required: Supply on a multipage .pdf in a single file
                page 1 = front print,
                page 2 = front finishing (IF RELEVANT),
                page 3 = back print ,
                page 4 = back finishing (IF RELEVANT)
                * If more than one finishing option is required on one side an additional page is needed.
                * If finishing option is NOT required, page is NOT needed.
                * It is helpfull to name the page out side trim marks for reference.
  4. Print Finishing : artwork must be vector & set as an appropriately named spot colour
    (e.g. "Spot UV", “Black foil”, “Embossing” etc.)

  5. Crop marks : Software created cropmarks included with 3mm bleed. ONE SET only. Remember If you have printer notes, allow 10mm bleed

  6. Colour : MUST be the same as stated in the product information or provided quote. Art is EITHER PMS or CMYK
    RGB will not be excepted. Full colour CMYK cards May use PMS 871U Gold or 877U silver
  7. Bitmap Images : NON VECTOR artwork need to be at least 300dpi
  8. Ink coverage : Must not exceed 300% (240% for uncoated stock) anywhere in artwork
  9. Fold & Score : DO NOT Overlay the folding in the artwork. Mark 3mm OUTSIDE the trim, and export with 10mm bleed.
  10. Safe Area : text (and important elements) should always be within 3mm of the trim line
  11. Fonts : All fonts must be converted to 'outlines', or 'curves'

Non Print ready files:
If sending through a non print ready file, please ensure we can open it by include any media / fonts.
This is easily done in InDesign by: File / Package
Finishing Requirements

Hot foil stamping

  • Only 400gsm textures stock or 350gsm with matt laminate is used for hot foil stamping.
    Foil doesn’t adhere well to gloss so we don't offer it.
  • Minimum stroke weight is 0.6pt.
  • Thinnest art is 0.25mm.
  • Gap between art needs to be 0.3mm.
  • The foil process is subject to movement up to 0.5mm.
  • Generally 10pt font size is okay font size for foiling.

Embossing

  • You can have embossing on one side and debossing on the other side, You cannot have embossing on 2 sides.
  • Minimum stroke weight is 0.6pt.
  • Thinnest art is 0.25mm.
  • Gap between art needs to be 0.3mm.
  • The embossing process is subject to movement up to 0.5mm.
  • Generally 10pt font size is okay font size for foiling.
  • Visually it doesn’t look as effective when colour is printed on the same area, where as blind embossing appears more prominent.

Debossing

  • 400gsm uncoated only:
    The chosen side will be indented (pushed in) but the other side will not be raised (pushed out), a slight mark may be visible on the opposite side from the pressure.
  • Minimum stroke weight is 0.6pt.
  • Thinnest art is 0.25mm.
  • Gap between art needs to be 0.3mm.
  • The debossing process is subject to movement up to 0.5mm.
  • Generally 10pt font size is okay font size for foiling.
  • Visually it doesn’t look as effective when colour is printed on the same area, where as blind debossing appears more prominent.

Spot UV

  • Only available on matt laminate
  • Thinnest line for spot UV is 0.25mm thick

Metallic printing

  • Spot colours:
    PMS: 871 gold
    PMS: 877 Silver

How to check if PDF is ready?
Use acrobat pro: Advanced tab / Print Production / Output preview
note: if you don't have acrobat pro, you cannot supply print ready files.

Check your .PDF does not Contain Fonts:
  1. Go to File / Properties
  2. Go to "Fonts" Tab
    fonts in pdf
  3. IF you see Fonts listed (as above image) then the file contains fonts and have not been converted to outlines.
    This means the file is NOT PRINT READY
